Disney says goodbye to James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for tweets offensive

The lesson that the social networks have taught users, is that everything that was written in them can be used against you days, months or years later, and you know that very well James Gunn, who because of some tweets he wrote in the past, it is now being “punished”.

The writer, producer and director saw as he left to be a part of one of the projects more popular and liked than Marvel, because of some comments issued on Twitter in 2008 and 2009, where he poked fun at topics such as pedophilia or rape.

According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, the tweets were released after several supporters of the president of the united States, Donald Trump, to rescue them and publish.

The tweets came to light through the medium of the conservative The Daily Caller, where several people who are related to the ideas of Trump, felt that the criticism that he wrote to the producer against the u.s. leader should be known by all the world.

With this basis, the Walt Disney Studios made the decision to take it out of the project of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, despite having done the first two parts of the tape, and turn them into a resounding success at box-office.

Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, explained through a press release, the position that the company had regarding the tweets from Gunn:

“The attitudes are offensive, and the claims uncovered in the history of Twitter of James are indefensible and inconsistent with the values of our study, and we have broken our business relationship with him.”

With the dismissal of Gunn, now we will have to find a replacement to have ready the third part of the Guardians, which is planned to debut in 2020.

For his part, James Gunn gave an official statement to the media ABC, where he explained that he understood the decision that Disney had taken, so now would take the situation with maturity and also offered an apology to the industry:

“My words of almost a decade ago was, at that time, efforts unfortunate to be provocative, that totally failed. I have repented of them for many years [after posting], not only because they were stupid, nothing comical, quite insensitive, or not so provocative as I had thought, because it does not reflect the person that I am today or the person I have been for a while.

Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and agree with the business decisions that have been taken today. Even many years after, he took full responsibility for how I behaved at that time. The only thing I can do now, besides offering my sincere apology and repentance of the heart, is to be the best human being I can be: tolerant, empathetic, committed to equality and much more attentive about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. Everyone in my industry and beyond, again I offer my sincere apology. Love to all”.

With this done, take the final decision of breaking ties with the director, because in 2012 he had to apologise for sexual comments written a year before in a blog, then Disney is not felt that this was a sufficient reason for his dismissal.
