In Mexico will be held meeting of the Artificial Intelligence world-class

Says the official web page: The first “International Meeting of Artificial Intelligence and its Applications” ([email protected]) will be held in Mexico City this August 25 and 26, with the goal of catalyzing the development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the country.”

This meeting is the first that is made in Mexico and the organizers expect to have academic and research groups, both mexican and foreign. All of this will occur within the facilities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

There will be a series of keynote presentations, where these are the speakers:

  • Yolanda Martinez
COORDINATOR OF DIGITAL STRATEGY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENCY OF THE REPUBLIC
  • Joaquin Quiñonero Candela
DIRECTOR OF APPLIED MACHINE LEARNING, FACEBOOK
  • Esteban Arcaute
    DIRECTOR OF ANALYTICS, FACEBOOK
  • Felix Hill
    RESEARCH SCIENTIST, GOOGLE-DEEPMIND
  • Carlos A. Coello Coello
    PROFESSOR, CINVESTAV-IPN
  • Armando Solar-Lezama
    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, MIT CSAIL
  • Alán Aspuru-Guzik
    PROFESSOR, HARVARD/TORONTO

There are three ways to participate: as a speaker, a wizard, or you, as a student of the summer school.

In the summer school offers an intensive course of a day about basic concepts of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL).

  • It will focus the course around the data used to confirm the existence of the Higgs Boson in 2014, trying to use thousands of samples of multidimensional data to classify events of the particle collider (LHC) as a Boson or not.
  • We will review multiple models for classification: logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees, processes gaussian and neural networks, etc as well as metric and common techniques for solving these problems.

Although we only treat problems of classifications, it will discuss how it relates with other problems of discriminatory (regression, multi-label classification, etc) and generative models.

This meeting is one of the most interesting of the last years and is worth a listen to the speakers. There are those that say that space is limited and you have to sign up under the assumption that the organization will write to the stakeholders that are accepted. The cost is 300 pesos but for students of scarce resources there are a number of scholarships to which you have access. The call can be seen here.
