The Spoofing attacks its victims by impersonating the identity of a person to attempt to obtain personal information, which is used in an illegal manner. According to information disseminated by the unit, the scammers manage to trick caller id to show a specific number and in this way it pretends to be an employee of any financial institution.

Condusef has posted on his official Twitter account the information regarding how to identify Spoofing and how to protect yourself from submitting personal information to criminals. “If you get the call from a representative of the bank, insurance company or financial institution that asks you to verify your personal data, it drops the call and verifies its authenticity by checking directly with the institution”, is the first step recommended by the institution.

It also recommends in general not to give any information, especially account numbers, key entry, or other information that may compromise the security of your bank accounts. Also advised to approach financial institutions and ask for the mechanisms of prevention and early-warning systems, because in this way can effectively detect any attempted illegal theft of data.
