Security firm ESET is warning of a rogue PostNL app in circulation. Once installed it acts as a keylogger. Cyber criminals can then follow along with whatever you do on your smartphone, enter, for example, during the internet banking.
The malware is being spread via sms and social media. The app will have access to the address book of the victims and that way to have more people sent. The malware falls under the BankBot family. The virus intercepts specific payment details that are entered in online banking apps or apps from online stores and payment services.
Researchers from ESET still do not know who is behind the malware. It is known that more than 600 Dutch, the link to the app on their mobile devices, have opened. Or they the app then actually have installed, is not clear.
