Unofficial Minecraft convention disappears with the money

Mineorama, the Unofficial Minecraft convention scheduled to take place in mid-July that was canceled in the last minute—and with more as compared to $500, 000 spent on advance tickets—insisted that it was “not a scam, ” knowning that another event would be scheduled to consider its place. But many ticket buyers worried which they had indeed been conned, and it’s starting to look just like that’s exactly what has happened.

The whole Mineorama situation looked dodgy as soon as organizers announced, “with deep regret, ” that the event have been postponed and that refunds wouldn’t be offered. The sheer amount of cash on the table made the prospect of a scam an alarming prospect, and while the people behind it promised which they were “sincerely attempting to makes right, ” as Kotaku provides noticed, it seems that what they’ve really done is have a powder.

The Mineorama website has become suspended by its hosting corporation, while the Mineorama Twitter account has become taken over by a “16 season old kid” who’s spent recent days using it to make fun of the “real” Mineorama. He acknowledged that he’ll likely be forced to return the account to the legitimate owners whenever they request it, but as of roughly half an hour ago that hasn’t happened.

I guess it’s possible that the rescheduled event could still come about, and that organizers are simply working so hard to produce it happen that they merely haven’t noticed their website and Twitter account have both quit working. But at this phase, as much as I hate to state it, it doesn’t look most likely; Kotaku spoke to one person who could get a refund from his standard bank and another who’s working onto it, and neither had heard something from anyone at Mineorama. Mineorama “Executive Producer” Lou Gasco, in the meantime, hasn’t tweeted since July 8, when he promised that questions would be answered using a forthcoming Twitch livestream. That, naturally, hasn’t happened either.
