Women that illustrates Sally Nixon believe that no one is watching. They are not posing, smiling, or doing interesting things. They are being themselves, and that is what makes these illustrations are really, really fascinating.
Women especially, we live in a world in which we are continually being judged by our appearance, except, fortunately, when we are completely alone. That rare moment in which we have the privilege of not being judged by our physical appearance.
This makes seeing the women relaxed, sitting with her legs open, with the dropped shoulders, eating with the hands… it is fascinating. You will be sure that you identify yourself with them!
“Women who drawing come mostly from my imagination, however, each one of them, in one way or another, are a reflection of my personality,” says Nixon. “They don’t have perfect bodies or habits are impeccable, which makes it easy to identify with them.
The scenes that I think are located in places of everyday life: the bathroom, a restaurant, a messy bedroom… however, my goal with every drawing is to make these everyday situations become something special and worthy of being seen.”
Here we see a girl washing the teeth while you shower. Something that perhaps, it is more common than we tend to recognize?
Kneeling on the floor of a store because it was uncomfortable to be picking things of the shelf from below. Who has ever done this?
The room is so disorderly, we have no where to sit down to dress, or be taking something with a friend and not being able to stop criticizing everyone who passes. I am sure you feel identified!
Do as you’re looking at the mobile to try to spy on someone. What you have not done so ever? I do not believe you!
Even though the world tries to show us as princesses, we are human beings and we can not spend 24 hours showing our face more beautiful, our beautiful smile or our perfect manners. We are not perfect!
