3 Things you probably didn’t know about The Virgin of Guadalupe, the great lie of the Spanish conquistadors

Our Lady of Guadalupe is a marian apparition in the catholic Church of mexican origin, whose image has its principal centre of worship in the Basilica of Guadalupe, located in the foothills of the hill of Tepeyac, in the north of the City of Mexico.

According to the oral tradition of mexican and according to what has been described by multiple historical documents from the Vatican, appeared four times to the indian Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the hill of Tepeyac, and a fifth time to Juan Bernardino, uncle of Juan Diego.

According to various researchers, the cult of the Virgin of Guadalupe is one of the beliefs more historically rooted in the current Mexico and part of its identity, and has been present in the development as a country since the SIXTEENTH century.

It has also been of vital importance even in their social processes more important as the Mexican Independence, the Reform, the mexican Revolution and mexican society today, where it has millions of faithful. But, what if this whole story were not real?

Already exist in Spain

A legend, not guadalupe, says that in the THIRTEENTH century there already existed in Spain a Virgin of Guadalupe. He appreciated the cowboy Gil Lamb in the margins of the river Guadalupe in Cáceres, of which the name comes from.

The first news they had of the Virgin was given in 1648, 117 years after the supposed fact, and it came to pass by the Spanish father Miguel Sánchez, in his book Image of the Virgin Mary.

However, while many devotees of the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe continue to believe that the image was of a divine form, to this day it is believed that it was a myth created by the Spanish to control the population.
