Grupo Televisa recently announced a new division to create content that will be distributed by the platform to the streaming of Amazon Prime Video. The division, which goes by the name “Televisa Alternative Original (TAO)” will have a presence in Los Angeles and Mexico City and will have a team dedicated to create content of fiction for platforms streaming and cable to the global level.
In turn, the new service of Televisa will air on television channels such as Univision, the largest chain of Spanish-speaking in the united States. According to the means of communication Variety, Amazon will provide licensing of the series in Spanish on Televisa with deliveries of 8 to 10 episodes.
According to the announcement of the partnership, Televisa will produce and distribute schedules that span an entire multiculturalism; the essence of the stories will be focused on various television genres with the greatest scope in the world to get out of the routine.
Isaac Lee, Head of Content at TAO commented as follows:
“With the different opportunities of window that we have and considering that the IP is very important to us, we can expect that Televisa will partner with international players in the middle to produce premium content.”
The companies intend to distribute your new content in more than 200 countries. However, Televisa would retain the rights to their platforms of open TV and pay-TV in Mexico.
Despite the fact that Televisa is the main chain of television in Mexico, the advertising revenues have declined greatly. For this reason, we are not surprised that the company wants to implement new strategies to regain its lost territory.
To Amazon Prime Video, the agreement will be relevant, as it will be positioned with original content in Latin America, one more step in the career of the services streaming.
Not yet specified details about what line will continue to all the content created by Amazon Prime Video, and the new division of Televisa, or when they will begin to develop the productions.
